"AY, ALIS KA NA?"
"MAY DATE KA, NOH?"
"WALA KA NAMANG IBANG TINUTUTOR, DIBA?"
"SUS. STAY KA MUNA."
"Mga hija, I have to study, too."
I never spent more than three hours with Sam and Ruth (my tutees) until today. I arrived at their house (we usually hold our tutorial at the computer/coffee shop) at around 11 in the morning. I wore a bag with books since I planned to proceed to the mall after the tutorial to read for my thesis. The plan was we end at 2.
When I arrived, the girls were playing. Ruth was busy with the ps2 doing Bratz. Sam was doing some origami forming houses and trees. The two were still in their sleeping clothes. When they saw me by the door, both flashed really rainbowish smiles as though anticipating rainbowish session with me. We were set for a serious tutorial since tomorrow is the first day of the week-long exam.
I knew when I saw their unusually very happy reaction upon my arrival that it would take quite some time to get started, more so to get their full attention to the then about-to-start tutorial.
“We will start in twenty minutes. That should be enough to save your game, Ruth and finish your house, Sam.”
“OK. Malapit na rin akong matapos dito. Ide-deliver ko na lang tong posters and I’m done.”
“Ako Te Peach tapos na sa bahay. Help me with the puno na lang.”
So I joined the girls in bed and started folding paper to form tree. I must admit I had fun that I actually allowed Ruth to go on until the whole game was finished (which took about thirty minutes more!). Sam was nice to get the book from me and answer a few items while Ruth and I were busy with our really productive businesses. Haha.
A few moments later, the maid came and called us for lunch. By this time, Sam had already answered half of what I assigned her to do. We went downstairs and had lunch with the kids’ parents. We spent about half an hour at the table talking about the world and exchanging nasty stares (the girls were obviously prolonging the stay to get rid of the tutorial).
When lunch was done (it was probably almost 1PM already), we decided we had to start with the tutorial. Seriously. Just when the two were ready to open their books and feign attentiveness, Yang2x the Nanny arrived to bathe the two as requested by the mother. The thing ate about thirty minutes.
Finally, we were able to start with our tutorial. I began checking Sam’s answers and let Ruth solve the items I asked her to. Both were wonderfully quick today. Ruth never complained and Sam was as cooperative.
After about two hours of serious discussion (weh?), we decided we had studied enough and that they are sure to pass the exam tomorrow. I was prepared to go home when Sam requested I stay a little longer for a game.
“Anong gagawin natin? Play Piglet?”
“Hindi. We will cook, Ate Peach.”
“Whaaaaaat? How? OK lang kaya? Baka pagalitan tayo”
“Nge. We always cook, Ruth and I.”
“Sige. Ano naman ipeprepare natin?”
In unison, “Pizza!”
And the three of us dashed to the kitchen. We murdered the French bread they bought yesterday. We also opened a can of sausage (since there was no salami nor pepperoni available). We found a pack of tomato paste, which we mixed with basil leaves for sauce. We bastardized the red cheddar cheese I believe wasn’t touched for weeks. Plus, we did not let the parmesan cheese pass our experiment. Hahaha. It was quite an expensive home-made pizza, to think that we were only playing.
Twenty minutes after we started raping the kitchen, the pizza was done. It tasted like real pizza, yumyum. The two were extremely happy they decided they wanted more. Sam took out eggs and started frying bread she put hole at the center where the egg was later molded when fried. Ruth, wanting no idle time, grabbed a bowl of milk and a bowl of beaten egg for her French toast.
When the two were done with their experiment, we thought the pizza was the only edible result we had.
After cleaning up our mess, Sam realized we had not touched her CLE lessons yet. It was so disappointing for me because I was expecting I would be free after the cooking session. I had to read, too. But anyway, we proceeded with her religion subject while Ruth went to their mom to watch movie with.
Sam and I took about thirty minutes to finish a quarter of the book. She already knew those things because we were reviewing since Friday last week.
When I finally decided I had to go home, Ruth came in and asked if I could paint the pig figurine I started painting on my previous visit at their room. I remembered I promised the girl I was going to finish it on my next visit that was today. So, I did. Again, we lost thoughts of time enjoying the colorful poster paints and soft brushes.
Finally, there was nothing left to do and I was free to go. It was raining when we went outside. Sam was dancing in happiness singing I could not go home yet. Ruth was suggesting I spend an hour or so until the rain stops. Luckily, I had an umbrella with me. So, I could go. And I did. I left. But weirdly, I did not want to leave. I wanted to play more. Sam hardly let me go. She was replying to my ‘byes’ but she was teasing me asking me to stay. How I love kids!
When I checked my phone for time, it was already twenty minutes past five. WOW.
I got home at 6, too tired to read. My plan to go to the mall didn’t pursue. But the today felt perfect. =)

I remember before, Sam and I talked about my thesis. She asked why I was suddenly busy about something. I told her I need/ed it for graduation. Innocently, she asked why I had to graduate. I told her I would need a job in the future and that would only be possible if I would get me a diploma.
"Nge. May work ka naman. Mag-tutor ka na lang pala sa amin palagi?"
"You are not forever students, dear."
"Kahit na. Magpa-tutor pa rin kami para may work ka."
ISNT IT SWEET. (=

im packing my things tonight. i might transfer residency by monday. wow. haha.
i miss the dorm anyway. it's been two years. oh well.
